DIX9211: Lack of information and examples

Part Number: DIX9211
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM9211,

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

The programming appears straightforward, but there's little documentation for external component usage. The datasheet says it's AES/EBU, AES3 compatible, but there's nothing clear about connections. AES3 can go up to 7V. I can use a couple of diodes across the transformer (and ground one side), use a level shifter, or find a custom transformer to bring it down to 5V-6.5V MAX., but there's no port connection information other than for S/PDIF. AES3 & S/PDIF are similar enough that they are almost interchangeable, but conversion could cause problems. Can an oscillator be used instead of a crystal on XTI? there'd be higher stability/accuracy and less noise & which saves space. There are other issues as well. Is there an evaluation board schematic, application notes, or errata? I'm just starting with the part and I don't know if I should continue.

Regards,

CSC

  • Hello,

This is a mature and solid part and  is identical to PCM9211 , which has  an extra ADC inside it.

DIX9211 datasheet (Page 18)  explains " External (XTI) Clocks, Oscillators, and Supporting Circuitry"  . Figure 4. also shows examples of  XTI and XTO Connection Diagram.

Application notes (SBAA179),  users guide (SBAU174)  and design schematics (below)  in the user's guide  can be used as well.

    Regards,
