TLV320AIC3254: EQ related inquiries

Part Number: TLV320AIC3254
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2781

Hi, TI support team

The customer wants to configure the product as shown in the block below.

Q1. Is it possible to adjust EQ for each L/R ch?

After checking the EVM User's guide, it is confirmed that the EQ function is adjusted in the DAC channel.

EQ is supported in the ADC channel, digital out (I2S) is output to Power AMP, and finally speaker out is considered.

Q2. Is it possible to configure the block diagram and the above description?

Q3. If there is an audio codec or ADC or DIR capable of EQ adjustment for each L/R ch in the configuration below, please recommend it.

i) Audio input: Analog, Audio output: Digital (I2S)

ii) Audio input : Digital(I2S), Audio output : Digital(I2S)

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hello MJ,

I am not sure if I understand your questions correctly so please clarify if I misunderstood something.

    • I believe this question is answered here. It is possible to adjust the EQ for the Left Channel and the Right Channel separately. With various filter options (both the ADC and the DAC) in the miniDSP

Q2. Is it possible to configure the block diagram and the above description?

    • Yes, the above block diagram is possible. Also note that the CODEC can use the (Analog) line outs to the speaker amp as well.

    • What is meant by each L/R channel? In general, it is possible to apply an EQ adjustment to ADC L, ADC R, DAC L, and DAC R separately.

Please let me know if you have further questions or clarification.

    Best,
    Andrew

  • Hi, Andrew

    Thank you for your answer.

    I have an additional question.

I would like to minimize the block as much as possible, but please recommend a minimum concept that can receive digital input or analog input from

Bluetooth, set EQ for each L/R ch, and send output to the speaker.

The purpose of inquiry is to use codec and power amp as one-chip.

The output power is 20W and the speaker configuration is 2.1ch (twitter, subwoofer).

It would be best if EQ settings were possible on the Power AMP.

If Power AMP does not have a product that fits the concept, please recommend a solution that is as cheap and easy as possible.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    MJ

  • Hi MJ,

We do have CODECs that come with integrated Class-D options (for example TLV320AIC3263), however these are often 1-4W amplifiers, and external amplification would be needed for output power of 20W. Also, it appears that the block diagram does not show a need for two-way audio (the CODEC does not need to Receive audio information). It may be possible to use a smart amplifier such as TAS2781 in order to tune your system remove the codec from the block diagram.

Let me know if the TAS2781 or a different audio amplifier meets the requirements of your application.

    Best,
    Andrew

  • Hi, Andrew

If EQ setting is possible in Power AMP, I would like to use only Power AMP.

It is difficult to apply the recommended part (TAS2781) because it is a mono product.

The Speaker AMP I found has the following parts.

    -TAS5751M *2

    -TAS5709A*2

    -TAS5711*1

Do the above products satisfy the specs and functions I want?

    [spec]

    - 2.1ch Audio out

    - 20W per channel

    - EQ setting for each channel is possible

    Please review.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    MJ

  • Hello MJ,

These TAS57xx are good devices for your application, and they seem to have separate biquads for each channel. They are also 2.1 so you would only need one. I would encourage you make a new thread regarding these parts so our experts on these devices can confirm.

Please note that TAS2781 features integrated speaker protection and IV-sense which may be useful, however you would need two since it is a mono part.

    I hope this helps,
    Andrew
