Ultrasonic Sensors..Side Lobes suppression.

Dear All,

May be this is not related to TI,s Product related question.

I am using Ultrasonic sensor which has sensitivity of 65 dB according to the specifications.

I have some basic daughts like...

1.Can these sensors sense sound waves less than 65dB to...

2.If they can sense ..Can anybody guide me to some relevent site where i can learn how to filter the sound energy below 60dB so that the receiver sensor will only have real echo.

I know this is not the right place to query things bt many of u may have worked around the Ultrasonic sensors so please would request to share ...U r experience.

For know the problem for me is i am not able to measure accurate distance...may be the possibility is that the receiver is not followed by the filter circuit.

  • Hrishikesh;

    I assume that you are asking about the ultrasonic sensor itself.

    Yes, a sensor can sense signals within its bandwidth all the way down to the noise level. If you are having echo problems, you might simply reduce the gain so that low amplitude echos are not detected as valid returns. In any case, the echo should return well after the target signal and the time of flight should be a clue as to its being an echo rather than a valid target.

  • Dear Sir,

    Thanks for your reply..so the sensor can sense sound energy less than -65dB.

    Thanks and Regards

    Hrishikesh.
