Looking For PCM to I2S Converter Codec IC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM49370, TLV320AIC3106

Hi

we need to interconnect 2 device having I2S and PCM audio output, I found a LM49370 I2S/PCM bridge which exactly match our requirment but now it is obsolet. please help me to find right Codec for the use below case.

  • Hello Rineet,

Thank you for reaching out. Many of our devices will support this functionality as long as the device has at least 2 ASI busses.

The TLV320AIC3106 would be a good starting point for your search. One bus can be configured as I2S and the secondary can be configured as another PCM scheme. (See section 10.3.2 Digital Audio Data Serial Interface and below)

    I hope this helps.

    Andrew

  • Hi Andrew

    Thanks! for the response.

by using TLV320AIC3106, can we transfer audio between processor1 and processor2?

    Thanks

    Rineet

  • Hi Andrew Jackiw

we are looking for a I2S to PCM converter

something like this. but from datasheet i hope TLV320AIC3106 will not transfer audio data between two processor. Please suggest a part which can work as a bridge between BLE and Cellular

    Thanks

    Puneeth

  • Hello Reneet and Puneeth,

From your explanation, I understand that you are trying to have the BTLE and the Cellular processors in your application transfer audio in two different formats. You intend to use an audio CODEC to convert/translate audio formats.

The short answer here is that our CODECs cannot act as a bridge between two formats.

To clarify I2S is a PCM format. What format of PCM are you referring to? What two PCM formats are you trying to bridge between? If you can provide information such as a block diagram or a list of routing, sample rates, formats, and slave/master we can see if there is any possible work around.

AIC3106 will only work if both modules were using the same PCM format (for example, I2S) due to the below configuration.

Otherwise, from my understanding using two different formats would require two Audio Serial Interfaces (ASI). CODECs (like AIC3262) can run two independent ASI buses, with different sample rates and formats. However, converting from one audio format to another usually requires a larger processer than is available in the miniDSP.

    I hope this clarifies.

    Best,
    Andrew
