We had few queries regarding the short circuit response in TLV320AIC3109-Q1.

1. Reaction time for codec to shutdown in case of short to ground.

2. Reaction time for codec to shutdown in case of short to battery.

3. After how much current detection will the codec shutdown in case of mic inputs short to battery.

4. Reaction time for codec to shutdown in case of short between mic inputs.

5. After how much current detection will the codec to shutdown in case of short between mic inputs.

6. Till what voltage till Short to battery work?

Hi Mayur,

The short circuit protection is limited to the HP Outputs so your questions 3 4 and 5 are not applicable.

Can you clarify what battery/pin are you referring to for #2 and #6?

Hello Jeff,

I'm asking these queries for Pin #12 & Pin #13, i.e., the mic input signals. Please let me know if there are any short circuit protections for these pins.

Hi Mayur,

There is no short circuit protection on the mic input signals. The short circuit protection is only provided on the HP output pins.

Hello Jeff,

Thanks for the information. Can you please let me know the worst-case scenario of what could happen in case the above-mentioned pins are shorted to ground and shorted to battery?

If input pins are shorted to GND directly they will sink current from the internal ADC bias. This shouldn't necessarily damage the device since it doesn't violate the Absolute Maximum table.

If the battery is less than AVDD, then the short to battery will not damage the device. If the short to battery results in an input voltage greater than AVDD+0.3V then the device will be damaged.
