TAS2505: ESD issue

Hi Team,

My customer uses audio amplifier TAS2505IRGER, during ESD test, the audio play stop, condition/result as below,

Continuous play audio file
Air +/-15kV discharge on speaker hole on housing
Once discharge happen audio play stop and cannot recover

Attached schematic of TAS2505IRGER. Could you help to check what may happen when ESD discharged and if there is solution can improve ESD performance?

Hi Hailang,

By "cannot recover" do you mean the device is damaged and won't work anymore? Or that device has to be reinitialized?
TAS2505 doesn't include system-level ESD protection, so it relies on the external circuit for this kind of protection.

Regarding the schematict:

FB30 & FB31 must be the first component at amplifiers' output, as close as possible to the IC. These must be placed before C228 & C229.
ESD protection diodes should be close to the speaker connector.

Thanks for your comments.

“cannot recover” means need re-power system, in other words, need re-initialize audio amplifier.

Customer would like to know how to check if there is audio output from tas2505 by reading some internal registers? Could you pls help?

Hi Hailang,

You can poll Page 1 Register 0x2d Bit 1, this should be set to 1 when the device is active, and it will turn to 0 automatically if there's an overcurrent event at the speaker output.
