PCM9211: S/PDIF and TOSLINK via PCM9211

Hi,

We have to process the digital data coming from S/PDIF OR TOSLINK along with a seperate path via Analog Audio as shown in the block diagram shown below.

I am going through PCM9211 datasheet and it looks like it can handle all 3 of them. Please clarify the following questions;

1. PCM9211 has "Main Output Port" that can be used to select the input path via AUXINs, DIR or ADC (for direct Analog Audio). We would like to use Main Output Port and to pass I2S to CODEC. I need to know how this port will select the input data. As per the datasheet it depends on the DIR that if it is locked or not. Based on DIR locking the Main Output Port will route the data via DIR Source or the ADC output. Please let me know if we have the option to select the input source to the Main Output Port in case we have data coming via ADC input or via S/PDIF? 

2. We have single input source from TOSLINK and another one from S/PDIF input. The PCM9211 has Optical S/PDIF input so I am assuming we can use it for TOSLINK inputs. Please confirm.

    1- All three outputs have individual multiplexers that can select between the AUXINs, DIR, or ADC. Please refer to Main Output Port  Source Setting Register (address = 6Bh) in datasheet (page 98)

    2-The PCM9211 has Optical S/PDIF input so I don't see any issue if  used for TOSLINK inputs.

  • Thanks Arash for that confirmation that we can control the input source going to the output via Main Output Port. 

    A side question, can you please confirm if we have an audio coming out from a CODEC, lets say L and R outputs and 2 separate audio amplifiers working at same time. Is it OK if we will be feeding for L and R to the inputs to 2 separate audio amplifiers? We want to send to 2 different paths via their own audio amplifiers.
