TAS6584-Q1: Passive Tweeter does not enter PLAY state

Part Number: TAS6584-Q1

We've connected a passive Tweeter (only tweeter with capacitor in series) to one of the channels.

Naturally, this channel fails DC Load Diagnostics and is marked as faulty in the "DC LDG State Rprt" Register. AC Load Diagnostics successfully detects the connected tweeter successfully. But after that, the channel does not enter the PLAY state and will fall back to the LOAD DIAG state.

Is there any way to prevent this behaviour?

  • Matthias,

This is the normal operation.  You will need to abort the load diagnostics and then you can place the channel into play mode.

One way to avoid this, is to turn off the automatic DC load Diagnostics.  You can then run DC load diagnostics on the channels with dc connected speakers and NOT run them on the tweeter channels.  You can then run AC Load diagnostics on the tweeter channels to make sure the tweeter is present.

    Regards,
    Gregg Scott

  • Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue. Skipping the automatic DC diagnostics did not allow the skipped channels to be playing.

But nevertheless, we've found a workaround.

First, we've disabled SL and OL detection (DC LDG Ctrl 1 - LDG SLOL DISABLE) and started the automatic DC diagnostics. Then we triggered AC diagnostics for the tweeter channels. We enabled SL and OL again and after that we sent the "non-tweeter-channels" again into DC diagnostics. Following this procedure all channels were playing.
