PCM1821: ADC Selection

Part Number: PCM1821
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320ADC3120

I need help choosing an ADC for my device. It is a electronic stethoscope for heart and lung auscultation. From literature review, heart sounds are between 100-200 Hz and lung sounds around 2000 Hz, and the best method is a condenser microphone. So I would like an adc to pair to this microphone, outputting I2S which will be sent to an ESP32 chip. I will only be using one microphone. If there is an option to offload some of the filtering from the ESP32 to the ADC that is ideal but is not required. Do you have any product suggestions?

  • Hi Kagen,

If you would like some filtering (biquad filters, HPF, decimation, etc)  to be enabled in the ADC signal chain I recommend a software controlled ADC such as TLV320ADC3120.

If there are more system requirements specific to the medical equipment I can loop you in with one of our product marketing engineers to help as well.

    Regards,

  • What MCU would you suuggest to program the TLV via I2C? I'm looking for a low power device, that will need at least 3 pwm channels and 8 GPIO. This will control the buttons and LEDS, so will be always on; so preferably a device that can output pwm while in sleep state that has low current draw.

  • HI Kagen,

Unfortunately, I can only make proper suggestions for audio devices since these are the IC's I specialize in. Please create another thread with MCU and processors team so their experts can properly assist you.

    Kind regards,
