TPA6304-Q1: 6304 Gain value setting problem

Part Number: TPA6304-Q1

Hi team,

The customer configures the Gain value as 0x03 register and writes the value 0xAA (22db).
However, the measured amplitude of the DSP output and the amplitude of the amp output are only amplified by 10db. At the same time, we read the 0x03 register, and the value read back is also correct (0xAA).
Can you give some troubleshooting suggestions?

The following picture shows the measured amplitude of Dsp output and Amp output when playing 1KHz single frequency tone. At this time, 0x03 is configured as 0xAA, which should be amplified by 22db, but it cannot be achieved in actual measurement.

My first suspicion now has to do with thermal reentry. Do you have any other troubleshooting suggestions?

  • Alan,

22dB is a gain of 12.6V/V.  It appears that you are measuring only one side of the output.  You need to measure it differentially to get the full voltage that will be across the speaker.  Also, measure at the input pin of the TPA6304. With this data, you can measure the gain of the amplifier.

    Let me know your results.

    Regards,
    Gregg Scott
