I'm using TLV320AIC23B, 2-wire initialization.

The manual somewhat confuses me, especially the CS state (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tlv320aic23b.pdf page 20). What does the CS state signifies here? This sentence "The device operates only as a slave device whose address is selected by setting the state of the CS pin..." really confuses me. Why do we need to specify the address? What address are we referring to?

So, if I want to operate the AIC23B codec as slave, do I supply the data "0011011" followed by 0 (R/W), and then the codec will pull the data line low, and then I can write the registers with my own settings?

the CS pin is tied high or low to specifiy the I2C address for the chip. You can have two different addresses so you can have two different AIC23B's on the same bus. The first I2C (two wire) byte specifies the Chip address, the second write specifies the register address, and the third byte is the data to be written to the chips register.

The AIC23B is write only so the chip address will always be followed by a 0 to indicate that you are writing. If everything goes according to plan, the AIC23B will respond with an ACK.
