TAS2563: I2S Audio Question

Part Number: TAS2563

The questions I had with the TAS2563 were if I could use it in this manner.   I want to feed the TAS2563 with a PDM microphone.  I wanted to use the TAS2563 as a codec to feed audio from the MIC over the TAS2563 I2S bus back to a Bluetooth microcontroller.  The Bluetooth micro will be running a headset profile and linking to a smart phone or computer.  The goal is to remotely sample audio over Bluetooth.  My main question is can the I2S bus on the TAS2563 send audio data from the MIC to the ESP32 micro, or is the I2S bus on the part used as an audio input only to drive an external speaker.    Additionally, could the TAS2563 be controlled so that it only plays audio from the microphone to the speaker when instructed to, or will it always play audio on the speaker?

  • Hi Patrick,

TAS2563 supports PDM recording to I2S function, it's recommended that PDM mic works at 3.072MHz.
Direct PDM playback to Speaker output is not supported.

Are you interested in WCSP or QFN package version of the device?
If you're also interested in using the audio processing features in TAS2563, please note that whenever PDM interface is enabled, some of the processing resources (EQ bands, DRC, etc) are no longer available. If your application is using the processing features, I would consider adding a dedicated ADC device for the microphones.
