TAS2563: Some of my EVMs work and some don't with the same configuration file

Part Number: TAS2563
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2X63EVM,

Tool/software:

We have been using a TAS2X63EVM for several months and managed to get a configuration file that worked well with our production design.  We bought 3 additional TAS2X63EVMs and loaded the configuration file into each of them and 2 of the new EVMs don't work and the third does work.  Before I simply send back the two that don't work I am wondering if there is something else I should check to resolve this.

  • Other details, I confirmed that each of the 3 EVMs has their jumper settings in the same state.  I also used the same laptop to perform all of these tests.  I shut down PPC3 everytime I began the test and followed the same steps for each device to reduce the chance of operator error.

  • Hi Edwin,

There's a button on the top-right corner of the Device Control panel, please initialize the device as you do normally, then go here and read the IRQ flags. Which of these flags do you see enabled on each case?

What is your power supply voltage? How are you connecting power to the EVM?

  • Hi Ivan,

Today things are a little worse.  When I started PPC3 it said it hadn't been shut down correctly last time.  I don't know how that can be since I simply told it to quit each time.  When I started to collect the IRQ information you requested I found that none of my 4 EVMs is working now.  I rebooted my laptop and that didn't help it.

I am assuming that Gray indicates the IRQ didn't happen and that Red indicates the IRQ did happen.  Each of the 4 EVMs reads the same for the IRQ values.  Here were the IRQs that are Red.

    • TDM Clock Error
    • Device Power Down
    • PLL Lock
    • Device Power Up

I am using a bench supply set to 5V with a 1A limit.  I am connecting the bench supply to the board through the screw block connector next to the barrel plug.

I am going to try reinstalling PPC3 and seeing if this corrects my new problem of none of them working.

  • Hi Edwin,

    Please also share

    • A photo of the EVM just to double check the jumper settings
    • A capture of your windows sound settings for the EVM, is it set for 24-bit 48kHz sampling rate? You may try changing between 48kHz and 44.1kHz.

It seems there's an issue with the input clocks, after that the device is disabled due to clock error.

  • This is the audio settings that the target platform uses, however I tried many different settings and haven't heard anything.

  • Hi Edwin,

I noticed sampling rate is set for 16kHz, if you have a scope at hand it may be worth checking FSYNC clock frequency right after power up, and check if it changes after attempting to play audio, my guess is that FSYNC changes at that moment causing the clock error to trigger. If you can do this you should use the sampling rate configuration according to the FSYNC frequency you see right after power up. The EVM itself cannot configure for different sampling rates, although the TAS2563 can, however for different sampling rates, you must connect an external audio source to J28.

I think there's an offline thread about this as well, we'll follow up there.
