    David,

    This is an open-ended question that creates many questions from me on the test parameters of the device and system.

    The thermal shutdown is typically 170C, with a minimum of 155C.  This is the only time we know the junction temperature within 15C.

    You can measure the temperature on the device during operation use the thermal information in section 6.4 of the datasheet and calculate the approximate value of the die.
