TAS2780: Performance data using PVDD=5V in PWR_MODE0

Part Number: TAS2780
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2562

Tool/software:

I have a low power application for the TAS2780, I only need around 1W. Looking at the data sheet, the THD around 1W output is quite low. However the data is measured with VBAT and PVDD powered.

I am considering using PWR_MODE0 and connecting 5V rail to both VBAT and PVDD. According to the data sheet, only PVDD will be used in this case.

This is not a portable application, so I am not worried about efficiency. I just need low THD at low power.

I’m curious if anyone has any measurements of TAS2780 using  VBAT=PVDD=5V in PWR_MODE0? Particularly THD into 4 or 8 Ohm loads.

Regards,

Dan

PS. Maybe there are better parts for this application but I also need the ISENSE feature.

  • Hi Dan,

I think there should be no issue to tie PVDD and VBAT together to a 5V supply - will doubly confirm this. and yes PWR_MODE0 will only use PVDD to supply the class D.

another part like TAS2562 in a BGA package would also work in this case, it has I-sense and is rated for lower power than TAS2780 so a bit smaller and cheaper

Can you share more details on your application? is this for driving a speaker? why do you have the particular concern for low THD. our part for 1W from a 5V supply into 8Ohms will be ~-80dB THD

    Regards,

    Arthur
