TLV320AIC3253: SPI + DPM input combination

Part Number: TLV320AIC3253

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I have a customer with the below general inquiry. Let me know what you think and what kind of follow up questions you may have (if applicable). Thanks in advance!

"I'm considering one of the TLV320AIC3253/4 devices for a new design. I was researching the availability of development kits and also trying to understand which features of the device are available with other features (since some pins serve multiple functions that prevent the use of certain combinations of features). I'm specifically interested in communicating with the device via SPI and I need the use of the Digital Microphone (PDM) input. At first glance, it seems like this combination might not be available."

  • Hi Marco,

In the typical use case, it's not available.

However a work around is to use DIN/MFP1 as your data in and MFP5 as your clock output. While possible, it makes the device mostly wasted since it removes your ability to playback through the DAC, but it is possible to record with a DMIC using SPI. If all you need is a DMIC recorder with SPI there are much better options, so in all practical applications DMIC and SPI is not supported on the AIC3253.

    Best regards,
    Jeff McPherson
