Tool/software:
Hello, I would like to use an existing amplifier board design built around two TPA3118D2 amplifiers (to provide 4x30W 8 Ohm output). But as far as my research on this forum has found, it doesn't seem like I can use 4 Ohm drivers with this design without actually decreasing the power output. And that to use 4 Ohm drivers and get the maximum of 50W per channel, I should be using the TPA3116D2 amplifiers, with the necessary heatsinks, of course.
From what I have gathered reading through the datasheet and answers here on the forum, the TPA3118D2 and TPA3116D2 are identical with the exception of the power pad location. That said, would anything need to be changed to use the TPA3116D2 instead of the TPA3118D2 from a circuit design standpoint? I like the board design and there are already mounting points for a heatsink, like the TPA3116D2 was a planned option. That said, since I didn't design the board, would there be anything that would not allow me to just switch to the TPA3116D2 on this board?
Thanks,
Joshua Bishop
Hi Joshua,
No additional circuitry changes would need to be made if the original board was made in accordance with our guidelines.

Thanks for the reassurance. I will double check the original board design just to be safe. Thanks again.
