TAS2X63EVM: PPC3 Tuning Mode does not produce audio

Part Number: TAS2X63EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2563

Tool/software:

I have the TAS2X63EVM board set up on my Windows machine (without the Learning Board), and it is capable of outputting audio over USB when PPC3 is put in "ROM mode". However in "Tuning Mode" no audio is being produced. Noticeably the PPC3 audio player seems to hang when in this mode -- it's stuck on 'playing' without the timeline actually progressing.

Have I misunderstood and perhaps require the Learning Board to use the tuning mode?

I have checked previous topics on this forum, and nothing stands out as exactly the same situation. I have verified that only the IRQ's live are 'PLL Lock' and 'Device Powerup'.

Thank you for your time.

  • Hi Wouter,

Learning board is not required to evaluate the device in Tuning mode.
Can you try using other audio player, not the one embedded in PPC3? The EVM works as a sound card so you can play from any other software.

  • Hi Ivan,

Yes, I forgot to mention -- the EVM sound card is the only enabled sound card in the system. During testing I have some music playing with a separate application as well. In ROM Mode via the Device Control page with a fresh profile the sound comes out of the stock speaker immediately. When switching to Tuning Mode, either in the Device Control page or Tuning page, no sound is generated.

    Thank you!

  • Hi Sarif

Perhaps you're using the wrong PPC3 app. There's TAS2563 EVM app and TAS2563 QFN EVM app, can you confirm you're using TAS2563 QFN app?

If you don't have access to the proper app, please submit a new request and specify you need the QFN version of it.

  • Hi Ivan,

Indeed, I am using the non-QFN version of the software. Note that the QFN-version has no entry on the relevant TAS2563 product page, or on the TAS2X56 devkit page. I have just requested the QFN version by changing the request form URL manually.

Also the 'Requesting Access to Audio Software` document does not mention this particular pitfall. Reading related forum posts I now notice that the BGA-version is less capable than the QFN version. I could not find a mention concerning this in the datasheet. It would be greatly helpful if the documentation was updated.

Thank you for your help, and I'm looking forward to testing the device.

  • Hi Sarif,

Thanks for noting that. We recently had an update on the tool used to request and approve software access. We're working on this right now.
I'll get back to you as soon as possible with updated instructions on how to request the access.

  • Hi Sarif,

Please navigate to "Design & development" section in TAS2563 product folder, then use the proper request link for TAS2563QFN-SW.

  • Hi Ivan,

Thank you! The link indicates that I already submitted a request -- my manual edit seems to have sufficed. However, the request has not yet been processed. Could you check in and see if the process is blocked somewhere?

  • Hi Wouter,

Your access request should be approved now.
