PCM6020-Q1: SNR & THD+N Measurement

Part Number: PCM6020-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi TI Expert,

Could you kindly share some material with me about how to measure the THD+N & SNR of the PCM6020-Q1?

Looking forward to your reply.

Thank you.

  • When we test Mic signal of the PCM6020, How to test the SNR and THD+N?

  • Hi Evan and Wilson,

Both measurements are recommended to be measured with audio test hardware. These tools have functions built in to measure these things.

THD+N is measured with the following 10log10(Signal_Power/Noise_and_Harmonics_Power) or 20log10(Signal_Voltage/Noise_and_Harmonics_Voltage). Usually this is done by putting a very narrow bandpass filter around the signal tone to measure its power/voltage and then using a notch filter to remove the signal tone and measuring the remaining noise/harmonics. According to the data sheet, the signal tone must be -1dBFS and the noise bandwidth is 20-20kHz

SNR is a lot easier. This is done by grounding the input pins and measuring the resulting output value. This will be equivalent to the noise floor of the device.

    Best regards,
    Jeff McPherson
