TAS5825MEVM: TAS5825-SW Software and using the PUREPATH Motherboard

Part Number: TAS5825MEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5825-SW, TAS5825M

Tool/software:

Hello,

A week ago, I purchased a TAS5825MEVM Development Amplifier Eval Board and a PUREPATH Motherboard to connect to it.

I have two weeks to evaluate this for management and at first, I had to wait a couple days to get approve for the Purepath Software download, now I am at three days waiting for the TAS5825-SW software approval.  I am going to run out of time before I can get anything done.  Is there a way to speed this up?

Also, to make sure I understand so I can move forward once I get the software.  The Purepath software and Purepath board just allows me to control the digital audio to the TAS5825MEVM, to setup the TAS5825 itself I need this TAS5825-SW.  Once I have both of those, I have everything to customize the audio coming out the TAS5825MEVM evaluation board?  The reason this is not clear is the TAS5825M Evaluation Module Documentation only discusses sending an audio stream from a Microsoft Windows operating system to the board.

Thanks,

Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

    You should be approved.

You are correct. The Purepath board is what can control the audio to the device and can be thought of as a "hub" for a few of our EVMs. In PurePath Console 3 (PPC3), you will be able to select the GUI that you want to use for the devices that you are approved. This GUI is how you setup the device and select which audio goes into the device. Let me know if you have any other help needed with getting PPC3 set up.

  • Hi Ramsey,

Thanks for the quick reply.  I did download the software, but I am unable to figure out how to install it.  The installation guide that comes with the download indicates to select "sign in" to install.  My Purepath software has no sign in options. I just have a ZIP TAR folder full of JSON files I am not sure what to do with.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

You can use this FAQ to install the software manually.

  • Hi Ramsey,

I am confused, where is this Console I see in your document.  The only software I have it called "PurePath Studio (Home Audio) MiniDSP GDE.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

When you download PPC3, you will get the console. The default install will have a folder called "Texas Instruments\PurePath Console 3" in your program files. There should be a shortcut there. If you have not gotten Purepath Console 3 yet you will need to request it here.

You should have two downloads: Purepath Console 3 (the hub if you will) and the TAS5825M GUI that PPC3 will let you use.

    Ramsey

  • Hi Ramsey,

That is my problem. I did not realize PurePath Console was something different than PurePath Studio.  I have requested it.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  • Hi Ramsey,

I downloaded the Console and installed it.  I had to search the forum to get the bugs out and get the system diagnostics to pass.  My only error is “The Hardware ID is not Correct” but that seems to be a non-issue as I manually connect.

I want to use the COAX IN as an audio path to the speakers.  I can select that without issue in the AUDIO I/O window and have a function generator connected to the COAX on jack.

So, if I understand this now. I have a path from the COAX jack to the TAS5825M, I need to use the I2C Monitor window to set registers in the TAS5825M and when I set them correctly my audio should come out the speaker.  Is this correct?  Are there any sample I2C setups available?  I see you can save and load them.

I assume I can run the Console or PurePath Studio but not both.  I would be nice to use the PurePath Studio to generate tones, but I can’t see how I can control the TAS5825 with it.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

To use the device, you will need to select which process flow and speaker configuration you want and PPC3 will automatically write the needed registers to the device. These steps should help you to get the device playing audio.

    1) Connect the TAS5825M EVM to the pure path motherboard. Connect power supply, USB, and audio input to the EVM

    2) Open PPC3 and open the TAS5825M GUI. Select your speaker configuration and press start.

    3) Press connect to connect to the device then press on Tuning and Audio Processing. Select which process flow you want

    4) Select which audio input you want to use by clicking on the "USB in" button

    5) Further configuration can be done by using the panels in the GUI, the register map, or the I2C menu

    Regards,

    Ramsey
