TAS5805M: Temperature is so high when playback at Low output power

Part Number: TAS5805M

Tool/software:

Hi,

In our project, we're using the TAS5805M in BTL mode with a maximum output of 1W per channel.

However, when PVDD is set to 24V, the temperature rises above 150°C until the amp triggers thermal protection.

We’ve confirmed that the software initialization sequence is correct,

So we’re a bit confused about to why the temperature is so high, even with such a low output.

Could you provide any suggestions? What options are available to reduce the temperature? For example, parameter settings, etc.

Thank you!

  • hi, chen

    1. can you tell me which chip you are using now? the upper side or the lower side.

    2. the fsw you use is what frequency. 384k is recommended.

    3. if you are using the chip with inductor, can you change the inductor you use? as the inductor on our evm is not that good.

  • Hi Jesse,

1.We use TAS5805MPWPR (thermal pad in lower side)
    2.Now is 768k in setting.
3.The inductor we use is 10uH / Isat:5.5A, and we try to change inductor Isat 7.5A, the amp also heat up over 150 degree

We understand that the efficiency for low output power is quite poor at a PVDD of 24V. Even though the output power is only 1W per channel, the temperature rise is higher than we expected.

    Thank you.

  • Hi, chen

you can change the fsw from 768k to 384k, it should help with your situation.
