Tool/software:
Hi,
Could you please tell me how to connect TAD5142 to a 3.5mm headphone jack with pseudo-differential output as stereo headphone amplifier?
I think I need to replace GND with common mode voltage. Is this possible to use it like this?
I would like to use TAD5142 in single-ended mode, so please let me know if there is a way to connect it to a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Best regards,
Kato
Hi Kato,
You can do it the way you described. As a guide you can refer to the schematic below for different options that we have added on EVM. ( users guide)
Jumper configuration at DAC output
TAD5142 in single-ended mode can be done for Lineout only as described in table 6.9. of datasheet.

Hi Arash-san,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
I would like to confirm just in case, is my understanding correct that pseudo-differential mode is a stereo output such as Lch is channel-1 and Rch is channel-2 ? Or is pseudo-differential mode a mono?
Where should the sleeve of jack be connected on EVM if TAD5142 is used with pseudo-differential mode? I cannot find where IN1M and IN2M of J30 are connected.
Best regards,
Kato
Hello Kato-san,
in Pseudo differential, the INM is connected to VCM, thus the OUTM is sitting at VCM (wrt GND), The outputs are still taken differentially from VOUTP and VOUTM , however in this case VOUTN is sitting at VCOM and thus the name is Pseudo differential. So you can connect the jumper to INM1 for channel one.

Hi Arash-san,
Thank you for your response.
According to TAD5142 datasheet, OUT2M should be connected to the common mode voltage VCM for pseudo differential. The sleeve(VCM) is connected to INM1 with jumper J30. What jumper should I set on the EVM to connect VOUT2M to VCM?
Please let me ask one more basic question. Is it correct that the Lch data is output from OUT1P and the Rch data is output from OUT2P in pseudo-differential? That is, stereo data is output. Or is it a mono output where the Lch data is output to OUT1P and OUT2P?
Best regards,
Kato
Hello Kato-san,
For output configuration please refer to the following 2 tables in datasheet: Table 6-1. Pin Selectable Configurations Summary and Table 6-9. Analog Output Configurations
This is also briefly tabulated for all ADC/DAC function in the users guide, section 2.3.3.4 MD4 and MD5 Hardware Configurations.
This DAC is a stereo (2 Ch) DAC, and one set of output is for CH1 and anther set of output is for Ch2. In the PD case, you still get stereo output, one channel from OUTP2 and one channel form OUTP1 .
