MC33078: Are the specs the same as LM833?

Part Number: MC33078
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM833, , OPA2206, OPA206, OPA4206

Tool/software:

Hi support team all.

I have received the following inquiry from our customer.

When comparing the data sheets, the MC33078 and LM833 appear to have the same specifications.

Do they have the same internal structure?

We are using the MC33078, but there are situations where it is prone to damage, so we are considering the LM833 as an alternative, but if the internal structure is the same, we would like to consider other products.

Best regards,

Higa

  • Higa,

I am trying to confirm this but based on the fact that all the specification and graphs are identical I believe they are the same die.  When looking for product substitutes it can be difficult to know by the data sheet how robust the device is.  One possibility would be to look at the ESD specifications, but that is only one possible way a device can be damaged.  Perhaps a better approach would be to choose a device with a built in protection structure.  Currently we only have one family of devices that have this feature OPA206, OPA2206, OPA4206.  Alternatively, you can add an external protection device.  The Op Amp Precision Labs section on electrical overstress covers this topic in detail.  The most simple form of protection is a resistor in series with the amplifiers input.

    best regards, Art
