TAS6684-Q1: Replacing TAS6584 with TAS6684

Hi,

I have replaced the TAS6584 with TAS6684 to increase the current output for out 1PBTL output. We have been evaluating the 6584 perfectly in this new product that we are developing. I have quickly reviewed and compare the datasheet side by side and tried just replace the IC on our board using same configuration header file we used for 6584.

My question is, Do I need to do some minor revision on the configuration file for the 6684 or we can just use the 6584 config as is?.

How about the PVDD shorted with VBAT below for 6584 in our schematic? Do I need to separate this circuit when using the 6684?

Im currently experiencing "ChOCDCFaultMemReg [0x8E]: CH1 OC - CH2 OC - c0" faut when I send play command to the board even at low volume setting. this is just by dropin replace the previous IC and not changing anything..

Jose,

TAS6684 page0 register are compatible with TAS6584, so if 6584 is already well done, then keep it no change is fine. if DSP domain register are configured, then these should be updated for TAS6684. can you check if register in book 0x8C and 0x8D are used?

VBAT can be directly connected to PVDD, there is not function impact. From thermal aspect, as there is a LDO internally used to generate 5V AVDD and GVDD, so if high VBAT is used, it will generate high loss, so i just recommend to avoid this.

About the OC, is that a real OC happening on board? does it pass DC diagnostic test? TAS6684 has higher OC level, should be more immunity to OC. addtional one i am considering is: TAS6684 updated some register default setting, if that was kept default and not configured in previous program, that could be different in TAS6684 default register.

all the settings is in the attached file 6648.codec_6584.h. I actually dont use yet the AC and DC diagnostic at this moment.. by configuration it is off

Hi,

I have tried checkout the 6684 into the PPc3 software by just login but it hasnt detect that new chip 6684 yet.. Just trying to compare the setting between the 2 IC. I have downloaded the "TAS6684.tar.gz" file and it doesnt come with an installation instruction for the PPC3..
