TAA5242: Separate GND planes for analog and digital

Part Number: TAA5242

Tool/software:

On my PCB, I want to use separate ground planes for my digital signals and analog signals. For this part, can I decouple the AVDD and VREF to VSSA (analog ground) and decouple IOVDD and DREG to VSS (digital ground)? Are they separated in the part itself? What is the thermal pad connected to?

  • Hi Kyle,

Internally the analog and digital grounds are connected, shared with the thermal pad.

While the PCB can share a common ground, I do suggest designing the decoupling path for capacitors to be as short as possible to its respective GND pin.

I decouple the AVDD and VREF to VSSA (analog ground) and decouple IOVDD and DREG to VSS (digital ground)?

Therefore, this is the correct approach and optimizes noise integrity in the system.
