TPA3116D2: Mono setup doesn't turn on

Part Number: TPA3116D2

Tool/software:

Hi everyone

I'm having issues with a setup with the following configuration of the TPA3116D2:

I'm using an input sinusoidal signal of 10kHz, 500mVpp. I use the mono configuration. The output filter cutoff frequency is 20kHz (enough for our design). But I have no ouput signal.

Can anyone help?

Thank you

  • Hi Alejandro,

Can you please probe the SDZ and PWM outputs of the device (pre LC filter outputs)? I noticed that you have a pull down resistor on SDZ by default which means the device will be shut down unless an enable signal is given. This would help rule this cause out.

  • After some tests I have a sinusoidal signal at the output. The problem I think is regarding on a over current protection during the turn on that turns off the amplifier (i have a load of 1Ohm). I take a look again at the datasheet and I look for the minimum load impedance and with 10uH and 1uF is 1.6Ohms. So could be there the problem?

    Thanks

  • Hi Alejandro,

Yes, this is very likely the issue. Not only is the 1 Ohm lower than the datasheet which would cause an OCP event, but with a lower inductor (3uH instead of 10uH) your ripple current will be higher which would also contribute to an OCP event.
