TAS5411-Q1: Load Diagnostics-false report open or short

Part Number: TAS5411-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi TI supporter,

We have encountered occasional false reports of load short circuits during both vehicle and bench testing. The value read from the TAS5411's 0x02 register is 0x04 or 0x0C, and after reporting the fault, the fault persists until the TAS5411 is power cycled to restore normal operation. Could you please clarify the conditions for determining the four fault states: Output short to PVDD, Output short to ground, Open load, and Shorted load?

How should we resolve this issue?

  • Joey,

The load diagnostics only runs when the /STANDBY pin is pulled high.  Pulling the pin low resets the device.  Pulling it high it will reinitialize the I2C and run Load Diagnostics.  If you have a load diagnostics fault, it will not clear until your cycle the /STANDBY pin.

For the four fault states, you must have only one fault present, you cannot have an open load and short one side to ground or PVDD.  It will see the open load first and not report the short to PVDD or ground.  Knowing this, the names of the four fault states is obvious.

    Regards,
