TLV320DAC3120: Some questions

Part Number: TLV320DAC3120

Tool/software:

Hi team,

Please tell us some of them.
1) Are there any requirements for power on and off sequence?
2) What should we do if VOL/MICDET, AIN1, and AIN2 are not used?
3) Is it possible to prevent POP noise during power on and off using only the IC's built-in functions? Also, what is needed for external pop sound countermeasures?

Best Regards,
Ryu.

  • Hi Yamashita-san,

This is the only constraint on power on: The TLV320DAC3120 internal logic must be initialized to a known condition for proper device function. To initialize the device to its default operating condition, the hardware reset pin (RESET) must be pulled low for at least 10 ns. For this initialization to work, both the IOVDD and DVDD supplies must be powered up. It is recommended that while the DVDD supply is being powered up, the RESET pin be pulled low.

There is no requirement on power off.

VOL/MICDET can be left floating. AIN1 and AIN2 should be AC coupled to GND with a 0.47uF cap. They can share the same cap.

The codec has some functions on controlling start up times for the headphone driver to reduce pop:

The Class D output does not have these features. Instead pop can be mitigated by turning volume down to it's minimum before powering on the driver. After the driver is on, the gain can be set, and the last step is to unmute the driver.

    Best regards,
    Jeff McPherson
