PCM2706EVM-U: Handling of the GND pin of U2 (3.3V Regulator)

Part Number: PCM2706EVM-U

Tool/software:

The U2(3.3V REG) GND pin is floating on this evaluation board, is this correct?

I think that this pin should be connected to GND on the board.

  • Hi,

Abigail brought this up as well and I think the design is a mistake. I also double checked the PCB and the GND pin is in fact floating. The EVM is very old and nobody has mentioned this problem before, so the EVM is probably not at risk for function. However in a final design, leaving the LDO ungrounded is a bad idea.

We will look into getting it corrected for future builds. Thank you for raising this.

  • Thank you for your reply.

    I see.

Actually, U1 of the EVM broke after a few hours of use.

So, I will repair the EVM by replacing the U1_IC and modifying the PCB (connecting the GND pin of U2 by strap wire).
