PCM5242: Can VNEG be supplied externally?

Part Number: PCM5242
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5102A, , PCM5100

Tool/software:

Hello

I'd like to know if it's possible to supply a -3.3V to VNEG(pin 9) and let the CPVDD(pin5), CAPP(pin6), CAMP(pin8) floating

I just found an other application online on PCM5102A, it seems work. Not sure if it works on PCM5242 as well

Thank you!

  • Hi Alex,

In theory if you don't power up that module , then the VNGE pin  is sitting idle and you can provide an external voltage. However without having the internal schematics it is hard to say for sure if there is no risk, specially the protection circuity is unknown here. I would think if it is working for PCM5100, I don't see any reason to think it will not work for PCM5242 , most probably they both  use the same charge pump internally.

    Regards,
