TAS3251: PVDD_X connect and pop noise

Part Number: TAS3251
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PUREPATH-CMBEVM

Tool/software:

Hi expert,

1. I want to know could I just connect PVDD_A  and PVDD_B together? Like this?

2. Pop and Click Free Startup and Shutdown 8.3.8:
I had a 47 nF Cap assembled on C_Start pin . I heard a pop when shutdown. Would it be better to use a smaller value for C_Start e.g. the 10 nF which are recommended in the datasheet? Or do you have any other good suggestions to solve this pop sound?

3. Now I have TAS3251EVM and PUREPATH-CMBEVM and USB cable, how could I connect them in order to test it? What should I connect to audio interface board?

Best regards,

Winnie

  • Hi Winnie,

Yes, the PVDD supplies can be connected, but the proper amount of decoupling and bulk capacitance will not have changed. A larger C_Start capacitance can be used to lengthen the startup time which may reduce pop. You should also make sure that the mute is asserted in the device to make sure audio is not playing when shutdown. It may also be worth ensuring the LC filter outputs are matched.

To use the EVM, the easiest way would be to use the USB on the EVM to communicate to PPC3 and then use the SPDIF input (optical) to test audio.

    Regards,
