TAS3251: Audio Output Lost After Re-initialization During Playback (Same Issue on EVM & Custom PCB)

Part Number: TAS3251

Tool/software:

Hi TI team & experts,

I’m encountering an issue with the TAS3251 amplifier, and the same behavior occurs on both the TAS3251 EVM and my custom PCB. Here’s the detailed scenario:

  1. Initial Setup & Normal Playback:

    • I configured the EQ in PPC3 and successfully initialized the TAS3251 via MCU (using the PPC3-generated script).

    • Audio playback works fine at this stage.

  2. Problem When Re-initializing During Playback:

    • While audio is playing normally, I try to switch EQ effects by re-running the initialization script (exported from PPC3).

    • After re-initialization, the audio output stops, and no sound is produced.

  3. Troubleshooting Attempts:

    • The PPC3-generated script includes shutdown & re-enable sequences for the TAS3251, which should theoretically allow seamless re-initialization.

    • I also tried performing an AMP RESET before re-initialization (as suggested in the docs), but it didn’t resolve the issue.

Question:

  • Has anyone encountered this issue before?

  • Is there a specific sequence or register setting required to safely re-initialize the TAS3251 during playback?

  • Could this be related to timing, register conflicts, or PPC3 script generation?

Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards,
Roger
