TAS5634: Is TAS5634 or TAS5624A DC coupled?

Part Number: TAS5634
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5624A, , TPA3255

Tool/software:

We sould like to use Class D audio amplifier to drive a precision voice coil motor, Is TAS5634 or TAS5624A (or, all TI class D amplfiers with PWM input) DC coupled?

If so, Can it be used to drive a voice coil with 0.75Ohm, 1.5Ohm resistance?

  • Hello,

In general I recommend looking into DRV2510 as this device was designed for inductive loads like voice coils.

Do you want a PWM input device specifically? I don't believe any voice coil testing has been done with these devices. Theoretically it could be done if designed properly. As these devices are PWM input, they do not filter out the DC input component. TPA3255 has been used for this type of application and we have an app note that goes into designing these type of systems (link).

  • Thank you for your suggestion, The voltage and current of DRV2510 is a little bit low for driving a voice coil or galvano.

    We will try TPA3255.

BTW, is TAS5634 or TAS5624A DC blocked? I could not found any document on this topic.

  • Hello,

    Sure no problem.

No these devices are not DC blocked.
