TAC5412Q15B5EVM-K: Setting up the evaluation module for a quick test using the on-board mic

Part Number: TAC5412Q15B5EVM-K

Tool/software:

Hi,
I am trying to get started with a simple "hello world" test on the TAC5412Q15B5EVM-K evaluation board.

I do not have access to PPC3 yet. I was planning on simply configuring the evaluation board so that I can simply talk to the on-board electret condenser mic, and plug headphones in the audio jack on the output side and hear myself. I have not been able to hear any output as of yet, or any sign of life except for the power and usb LED (the blue USB led eventually turns off, I think it is because I do not have the USB drivers installed).

The steps I have done as of yet:

1. The EVM is powered by the AC-MB motherboard which is itself configured to be powered by 5V USB.

2. I have setup the input jumpers according to Table 2-1. Input Jumper Configuration in the user guide:

I have not touched the output configurations.

I have tried changing the AC-MB source switch just to make sure

I do not have the correct drivers for the AC-MB as I do not have PPC3 yet. So I am not sure what else I can do to configure the codec.

I need guidance on how I can configure the EVM so that I can at least do this simple test. If there is another way to do a simple hello world, please let me know. Thanks!

  • Hi,

The device registers need to be initialized and configured for the EVM to operate. Please download PPC3 and TAx5xxx app, connect the AC-MB, and we can troubleshoot from there

  • Hi, I now have the apps correctly setup and running. Referring to the user guide, I am still a bit lost on the first steps.

    - My IN1 is still configured for the "On-board Electret Condenser Microphone (ECM) Differential, AC-coupled" through the PCB headers.
    - I loaded the first preset, "Record AC-Couple IN1-IN2 Differential, as this seems to be the proper config for my current IN1 setup.

    - I activated the device (top right button is green now). I checked the I2C monitor window as I was loading the preset and activating the device. No data was transmitted. I thought some configs for the preset would have been sent.

Now I am unsure what to do. My goal for now is just to see if I can see or hear data recorded from the on-board mic.

Is there a way to acquire the data through USB and maybe plot it? Otherwise, I would like help to set things up in order to be able to get the data from one of the outputs on the motherboard.

I am sorry if this is very basic. Thanks!

  • Hi Jean,

In the EVM reference guide you can refer to table 2-10 for the jumper configuration needed on the EVM. I your use case I would recommend row 5.

Loading the preset highlighted should work. Once the device is active try double checking the BCLK and FSYNC frequency provided is the same format configured on the audio serial bus tab. Moreover, if you're using the AC-MB to generate the clock, ensure the switch is correctly set, and the AC-MB preset is loaded.

If clocks are correct, power supplies are stable, and the device has been configured via I2C then you will be able to see SDOUT toggle on an oscilloscope or interface this with an audio analyzer (Audacity is what we use) to record audio.
