LMV1091 — a Dual Input, Far Field Noise Suppression Microphone Amplifier

Part Number: LMV1091
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3204, TAS2563, TAS2572, TAS2781, TAS2780

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

During my evaluation of active noise cancellation (ANC) solutions, I came across the LMV1091 — a Dual Input, Far Field Noise Suppression Microphone Amplifier. I would appreciate your clarification on the following points:

  1. Application for ANC:

    • How effectively can the LMV1091 contribute to achieving active noise cancellation?

    • Specifically, can it be used for front-end far-field noise suppression as part of an ANC system, or would it require additional processing stages?

  2. Compatibility:

    • Can the LMV1091 interface seamlessly with the i.MX6ULL processor and the TLV320AIC3204 audio codec?

    • Are there any specific interface or signal conditioning considerations when connecting the LMV1091 outputs to the TLV320AIC3204 inputs?

  3. Additional Requirements:

    • Apart from the LMV1091, what other system components (DSPs, additional filtering stages, etc.) would be required to implement a complete ANC solution?

    • Any recommended design guidelines or application notes would be helpful.

Please provide your technical insights on these aspects. If available, sharing a typical application block diagram would also be appreciated.

Looking forward to your detailed inputs.

  • Hi Yarakareddy,

LMV1091 is a simple analog implementation of noise cancelling from before the wide-spread of DSPs, placing the microphones for near-field and far-field inputs may do similar to ANC. It would depend on the final product requirements.

The analog output of LMV1091 can be connected to any analog input device, it should work OK for converters such as TLV320AICxxxx family.

  • Hi Ivan,

Thank you for the clarification. Since our system is designed to stream mic data to the speaker in a full-duplex setup, we're exploring whether ANC can be achieved without using a DSP. Given that the LMV1091 offers a simple analog implementation of noise cancellation, it seems like a potential fit—especially with proper placement of near-field and far-field microphones. Of course, the effectiveness would depend on our final product requirements.

That said, could you please confirm if the LMV1091 can be effectively used for ANC in this kind of setup? Additionally, we’d appreciate any guidance on how to integrate this IC—are there any specific configuration steps or software tools required to use it properly?

  • Hi Yarakareddy,

There is no software tool associated to this device, it is completely analog. Unfortunately, due to longevity of this device there is no hardware platform reference or EVM, but the Typical Application diagram in page 2 of the data sheet along with the Microphone Placement section in page 15 can be used as guideline to what the device requires to operate.

  • Hi Ivan,

Could you please suggest any integrated circuits (ICs) that are compatible with a microphone, the TLV320AIC3204 audio codec, and the i.MX6ULL processor to implement active noise cancellation (ANC).

    Regards,
    Padmini Yarakareddy.
  • Hi Padmini,

What are you trying to build? Is it headphones with ANC?
Just so you know, we don't supply example circuits for different applications, just support questions regarding TI devices configuration.

  • Hi Ivan,

We are working on implementing Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) in our PA system, which operates in full duplex using microphones and speakers over UDP. While we are not looking for circuit-level support at this stage, we would like to know if you offer any ICs that could assist in achieving ANC functionality in conjunction with the TLV320AIC3204 codec and microphones.

    Looking forward to your guidance.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Padmini,

On the speaker side of things, our latest released amplifiers such as TAS2563, TAS2781, TAS2572 and TAS2780 all have the option to send back to the host the "echo cancellation" through SDOUT data, which is the digital version of the audio being played right before the analog front-end. It includes all the digital processing in the audio signal chain so it may be used similar to microphone implementation close to the speaker.

However, I'm not aware of any device that's dedicated to run echo cancellation or active noise cancellation. That usually runs in a complex processor using data from peripheral components.
