TPA3221: High impedance / Open-drain external mute switch

Part Number: TPA3221

Tool/software:

Good day TI experts,

Asking advices about the Mute function on TPA3221. I'm working to add external switch to mute pin. What I want is when the switch is open the device is muted, and when the switch is closed, the device will be unmuted / normal operation. I'm using two NPN to achieve this goal. I see no issues both on my simulation and my prototype.

Everything is working fine on my table for few days now, however I'm slightly worried because the datasheet says :

"External control of the soft mute function must provide high impedance output when not engaged (open drain output) to allow the CMUTE node to charge/discharge during device ramp up and ramp down when de-asserting and asserting RESET."

The word "Open-drain output" is something new for me and I'm struggling with it right now. I manage to find some clue about it from another TI documents (Voltage Supervisor) but it still above my learning phase as for now.

Can you please help to check if my circuit is compatible with the datasheet requirement? if it's not, can you please recommend me some circuit that will satisfy the condition above (high impedance output, switch open = mute & switch closed = unmute). Preferably a simple one using common NPN, PNP, fet or mosfet..

Thank you
Salwa
