TAS2110: Recommended way to limit the output by hardware

Part Number: TAS2110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2120

Tool/software:

Hi,

According to the datasheet the TAS2110 is capable to drive 6.1W into a 4 Ohm speaker. However my speaker is only rated for 3W maximum. I am aware that the output can be limited by software but i am wondering how to do that in hardware? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

  • Hello,

This device needs to be configured with I2C. We do have a newer version of this device though, TAS2120, which has a hardware configuration option where no software configuration is required. One of the hardware pins selects the gain. This sounds like it may be more ideal for your system. Is this something you would be interested in?

  • Hi,

Thanks for the information. I will have a closer look on this device but unfortunately i doubt that a can change that chip at the current design phase.

  • Hello,

Understood. There isn't really an option to limit the output power of the device via hardware here. You would either have to adjust the device gain settings or reduce the input signal which both require software. You can use our PPC3 GUI to easily adjust the device registers to finalize the setting that is best for your system. You can then save this configuration to use as an initialization script on amp start up.
