TPA2012D2RTJR No sound under Ubuntu, what's the problem?

  • Hey Rong,

Please forward a schematic for review.

    Regards,

    Ore.

  • Hi Ore,

Please see schematic ,It works fine on Windows, but there is no sound on Ubuntu 24.04.TPA2012D2RTJR No sound schematic.

  • Hey Rong,

I am having a hard time reading this schematic.

Can this please be provided in .pdf format?

    Regards,

    Ore.

  • Hey Rong,

This still looks like a link. Upload an unlinked pdf to the thread.

    Regards,

    ore

  • Hi Ore,

Please see pdf file,or send me your email,i will email to you ,thank you

  • Hey Rong,

    Here are my comments:

    • Understand that SDR,SDL are active low pins. If 0.35V is on these pins, device is in SD mode.
    • if PVDD and AVDD are shorted they could share a single pair of 0.1uF and 1uF or both could be separate lines with the same voltage where PVDD takes the higher cap value for decoupling.
    • The UG has a perfect example for both schematic and component values to pick.... you could implement those values and configurations.
    • Pick ferrite beads or inductors with saturation currents close to the Idd of the IC and output current of the IC. Idd is stated in the DS as 4mA to 9mA with no output filter. The output current could be derived from using this following formula and method
      • P=(Vrms)^2 / R . derive R and Vrms from here
      • Vrms=IR should determine the Iout for TPA2012.
    • Based on the 120KOhm selection on the gain pins, you can use V=IR (V between 2.5V to 5.5V and R=120KOhm) to determine the current rating on these pins for safe current operation of those pins. Right now your resistor is lower in impedance.

  • After testing, it is not related to the line; it is still a driver issue. It is normal in Windows 10, but the SPK device cannot be found in Ubuntu. Could you please help check what the problem is? Thank you.

  • Hey Rong,

From what I understand, the setup works on a different driver but not with the new driver you switched over to.

Seeing as this is a purely analog amplifier, it is not clear what you mean by "finding this IC on your driver".

Could you please elaborate what you mean by you see this IC on your windows driver but not Ubuntu? For example, provide a screenshot of windows recognizing this device.

I still strongly suggest implementing the HW configurations for optimal performance. Sometimes, devices work well on one system with a certain configuration and stop working with the same configuration but on a different system.

    Regards,

    Ore.

  • Hey Rong,

I would emphasize if the HW configuration is working in one setup, I consider the AUDIO IC to be fully functional on your end. Please when switching over to a different system, please make sure you are using the right HW cfg and maybe try to check the differences between the Windows setup and Ubuntu.

I would consider this thread closed.

    Regards,

    Ore.
