LM48560: LM48560 current consumption

Part Number: LM48560

Tool/software:

Hi TI Experts!

I am currently assessing the power consumption of the LM48560 audio amplifier.

Could you advise on the key parameters I should focus on when evaluating its power usage? I am supplying 3.3V and aiming to amplify the output to 15V. I would greatly appreciate any guidance on which specific information to consider when calculating the current consumption of audio amplifiers.

Additionally, could you help clarify the differences between the three datasets I’ve attached? Apologies for my limited experience with audio interfaces, but I’d also love to understand the role of Rl and Cl at the output of the LM48560 amplifier.

  • Hi Ena,

The quiescent supply current from spec table can be used as estimated for the power consumption while the device is active but idle; figure 16 can be used as reference for different supply voltage levels. Once the device is playing, the power consumption increases accordingly, in this case you can use the power consumption numbers from figures 17, 18 and 19 depending on your load capacitance.

Rl and Cl are the load impedance/resistance and capacitance values. Rl = infinite means the is no load connected, so the output is floating. These Rl and Cl are used as representation of the usual piezo transducer characteristics.

  • Hi Ivan,

    Thanks for the explanation.

Can I conclude that I can estimate my power consumption to be 1000mW when my load capacitance is 1uF base on figure 18 at Vout (Vpp) = 15V? Assuming my audio is playing at 4kHz.

  • Hi Ena,

    That is correct.
