TAS6684-Q1: One of the channels has no output

Part Number: TAS6684-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS6584-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

The customer designed an AMP circuit using TAS6584-Q1 with 4-channel output. When the output power reaches 50W * 4 (PVDD=24VLoad=4ohms), one output will enter a protected state (no output), Can you please help provide any suggestion that might cause this  issue? Thank you!

  • Hi Eric

Please check register value from 0x80 to 0x8E, to see which fault been report to you.

  • Hello Shadow,

From the read register values, it appears that TAS6584 has entered over temperature protection (OTSD). The following figure shows the read register values. Are there any other methods besides increasing the area of the heat sink? Thank you!

Thermal grease thickness and thermal conductivity is also important. Suggest to keep the thickness smaller than 0.2mm, which requires customer's mechanical design. And thermal conductivity choose value larger than 6W/(m*K).

And check the PWM frequency, if customer using 480KHz as recommendation. ClassH function could also help to reduce power loss, but need large circuit design changes.
