TPA2000D1: Driving 3 ohm Load

Part Number: TPA2000D1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA6211A1, TPA2011D1

Tool/software:

Hello,

I need to drive a 3 ohm load with a +/-1Vpp signal with input frequency from 1 to 600Hz.

Can you recommend a starting point for this design?  Is this audio, or a power amplifier application?

Any help to get me started would be of great help.

Thanks!

  • Hi Loren,

Devices such as TPA2011D1 (Class-D) and TPA6211A1 (Class-AB) are simple devices you could consider for your described application.
3 Ohm is lower than most audio amps minimum load spec, however given that you only need to drive 1Vpk it might be OK even if you drive a lower impedance load.

You mentioned as low as 1Hz so I would suggest not using input coupling capacitors, this way very low frequency should go through the amplifier as well.
Both of these devices have TINA and PSpice models available, as well as EVM in case you want to run tests on it.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions.
