PCM5100A: attenuation prior to TPA3138D2

Part Number: PCM5100A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3138D2,

Tool/software:

Hello,

My customer is using PCM5100A and TPA3138D2 for their board and observing some distortion at the maximum volume. As a workaround, they plan to put some attenuation between PCM5100A and TPA3138D2 as follows. They plan to use 1kohms for R1 and R2, 330ohms to 470ohms for R3 and R4. They would like TI experts to review the workaround. Does TI have any concerns about this workaround?

Best regards,

  • Hello,

It is fairly common to use a voltage divider at the output of the DAC , along with a LF,  before sending the signal to the amplifier to avoid saturating the output of the amplifier.

Voltage divider will generate a voltage  Vin_ AMP=VDAC_output   * (R3/(R3+R1))

    Kind Regards,
