TAC5301-Q1: Part selection: PDM to LineOut with volume control

Part Number: TAC5301-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAC5112

Tool/software:

Hello,

I would like to replace a analog microphone with an PDM one within an existing project. TAC3201 is just a placeholder as there is no volume control input.

Sink is the Line Input of a TLV320AIC24IPFB which can't be changed.

Right now there is an analog op amp with a Potentiometer to control the volume. Can you help me to select an IC which can use an PDM microphone as input? A local external interface to control the volume is needed. Bonus if its possibel to use I2C as alternative to select the gain.

Thanks Michael

  • Hi Michael,

Please take a look at the TAC5112. This device can interface a PDM microphone and output as a line out to drive the AIC24 input. It also supports changing volume of the PDM mic via I2C.

  • Hello Jeff,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately there is no direct input for volume control, or I missed it in the datasheet.

I2C is only a additional. I need the option to run the setting stand alone without I2C. One time programming during manufacturing is possible but I would like to avoid if possible.

    Thanks Michael

  • Hi Michael,

I2C is the only control interface our devices use to control mic volume. I didn't realize that operation without I2C is a requirement. If that's the case then we don't have a solution for that. All of our PDM interfacing codecs require I2C on start up to program the device.

    Best regards,
