Hi Ti

we were using the Class H boost converter within the TI amplifier, in addition to the Class D. It doesn't sound like we are. Please help confirm.

  • Hi Ti

Maybe I should modify my question:

What's the condition we will boost Class-H? I saw register setting   BST_CFG_02 is 0x23= '00100011', so Boost Mode should be Class-H, why we don't use Class-G or others?

Maybe no clever question, pls let me know the difference.

  • Hi Kuofeng,

the difference of the four mode is the power supply to the calssD amp.

basically, always off means the power is only the vbat, usyally it is around 4.2V(typical).

always on means the boost is always on, you can assume it is 13V boost, of course, it is follow the boost setting.

ClassG means, the power supply will switch between vbat (4.2V) and boost (13V), only two stage.

ClassH means, the power supply will switch between Vbat(4.2V) and boost (13V), but much more stage, the step is 33mV.

both class G and ClassH will switch the ClassD power supply automatically when necessary. and both of them can increase the efficiency and keep the similar performance to boost always on. of course, ClassH will have better performance.

  • Hi Wenbin

      1. Always On means? Can refer to which page/ section of some doc?

      2. BST_MODE seems been setting at ClassH is best even only VBAT 4.2V supplied? Only 4.2V but setting at Class H seems no side effect?

      3. ClassH will have better performance, what's the statuation to select ClassG?

    Thanks,

    Novel

  • Hi Kuofeng,

regarding the class-h/g, you can refer to the below app note :https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slaa888

class-H is use on several generation's smart AMP, it is the best solution for most usage.

compared to class G, Class H is most preferred.
