TLV320AIC3104: TLV320AIC3104 dynamic range

Part Number: TLV320AIC3104

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I’m using the TLV320AIC3104 codec and I see that the dynamic range of the stereo headphone output is around 91 dB as per the datasheet.
I need to increase this dynamic range — ideally up to 120–130 dB.

How can i increase this dynamic range also tell me hwo to measure it correctly .

Regards ,

Falguni Sharma

  • Hi Falguni,

There's no parctical way to increase the dynamic range by this much.

The only way to increase dynamic range of a converter is to short inputs together and sum the channels together on the output. Each power of 2 channels summed adds 3dB of dynamic range. Practically this looks like an additional 3-6dB by summing 2 or 4 channels. To increase by 30dB would require far too many channels for any real-life case.

    Best regards,

  • Can i increase this by using amplifier either in input or output  side of the codec ?

  • Hi Falguni,

I don't think so. You could have a very nice dynamic range of your ADC input but it will get bottlenecked by the ADC noise floor. Likewise with the DAC, the noisefloor of the DAC will get amplified by the same amount as the signal if you were to use an external amp so there will be no benefit.

The dynamic range you are looking for unfortunately isn't covered by our catalog.
