PCM2903C: Can PCM2903C be used for I2S > USB audio interface?

Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering using PCM2903C or PCM2906C for their new products.

At this moment, they has the following questions.
Could you please give me your reply?

Q1.
They are looking for an IC to convert stereo audio to USB audio.
They think the following TI part numbers might be suitable.

・PCM2903C
・PCM2906C

They think the above part numbers are ICs capable of converting stereo audio to USB_IF.
Is their thought correct?

Q2.
If TI has an IC capable of I2S → USB_IF conversion, could you please introduce it?
If I2S → USB_IF conversion is possible, they would like it to support a Master Clock of
11.2896MHz and a sampling rate of 44.1KHz.

Hi Kazuya-san,

Sorry about the delay here. Yes, the PCM2903C and PCM2906C are USB audio codecs, and I would also recommend looking into the PCM2912A as another USB audio codec, but for analog input it only has 1 ADC input source. The 2903 and 2906 have a stereo input option. These USB codecs output USB-compliant audio over D+/D- pins, which can be connected to the USB port. Then the computer will recognize the USB audio device for stereo input and output.

Unfortunately we do not have any USB to I2S converters active anymore :( I would recommend using a MCU with I2S capabilities and using code to make a USB to I2S converter. You could ask the MCU teams at TI for a recommendation there. I know devices with McASP have support for I2S and USB.

If your USB dongle has an analog input/output connection to USB, you could use a regular I2S codec and use the analog connection on the ADC or DAC from your I2S source? Let me know what else you are thinking about this.

The customer wants to evaluate PCM2903C and PCM2906C using EVM.
Can the following EVMs be used for PCM2903C evaluation
though PCM2903 (no C version) are mounted?

Yes the PCM2903EVM-U is fine for evaluating PCM2903C. Just see the following app note for the differences between the C and non-C version of the device:
