TAC5212: External Circuitry

Part Number: TAC5212

Tool/software:

Hey team,

Can you please assist me in understanding what external circuitry we recommend such as filters to sit around this Codec to help it operate properly? Do we have a recommended amplifier stage / filter circuitry that should be feeding in to it?

Thanks,

Cameron

  • Hi Cameron,

There is very little required in terms of filtering for this codec. Typically on the input side there are AC coupling caps placed after some kind of passive RC filter. The nature of that filter depends on what the audio source is, but I've even seen as little as caps to GND to act as high frequency shunts without a full RC filter. If it is known that the audio source will have a significant amount of out of band noise compared to the in-band signal, I do more strongly recommend filtering back down to the audio band, since the ADC struggles with out of band noise. In most applications this doesn't really come up as an issue to begin with, but since you are asking that would be the only hard requirement

On the output side, again there are no filters required, but best practice is to use a passive RC low-pass filter with a cutoff of 20kHz to remove any non-audio noise from the circuit. This is especially true if you are using another amplifier stage later on.

    Best regards,
    Jeff McPherson
