PCM6340-Q1: Input directly connect to speaker level signal

Part Number: PCM6340-Q1

Tool/software:

Good day fellow engineer,

My team and I are working on a car audio amplifier using this part, and I have a question regarding the input connection.

In our schematic, the audio input has a 6 V bias derived from a 12 V supply, so the signal ideally swings from 0 V to 12 V.

the datasheet states that the device can handle up to 18 VDC.

Is it safe to connect this signal directly to the ADC input as shown?

Additionally, is it possible to connect the input without using a coupling capacitor, or would that introduce risks?

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

  • Hello Rifky,

With 0 to 12 Volts input,  you are within the acceptable range of the "max absolute range"  (18V). So it should be ok from meeting the absolute max rating point of view.

Our EVM allows both DC and AC coupling,  Differential input full-scale AC signal voltage is 10Vrms and single ended is 5Vrms.

Please refer to users guide section  2.2 , PCM6xx0Q1EVM-PDK Hardware Settings  and Table 2-1. Input Jumper Configuration for more information.

    Regards,
