Tool/software:
I'm testing a 3255 with Roc = 22K ohm in BTL. 34 volts VCC. One output goes to a 4-ohm subwoofer, the other output goes to the mid/tweeter.
I was doing an endurance test at high volume; the subwoofer channel was driven to clipping some of the time.
After about 5 minutes, the subwoofer channel went to protect and I had to power cycle it to bring it online.
I don't think it could have been thermal since the other bridge was still active. And with a 34 volt supply at 4 ohms (worst case 3 ohms), there's no way the 17A current limit was approached.
The datasheet only shows two ways to end up in a latched fault... OC or OT...neither which should have triggered. Not even close.
QUESTION: If it clips long enough, will it eventually latch hard into protect regardless of actual current? I need to determine if this is a fundamental design/layout issue or user error (avoid clip at all costs?)
Thank you!
