CC8531: Audio interface External Clocksource not working

Part Number: CC8531

hi team 

my target is to use CC8531 RF chip for Audio , 

it is acceptable if RF is in Slave or Master mode 

but i need to configure the I2S interface in Slave mode, because I need to interface this device to a DSP which cannot act as Slave, so I need CC8531  I2S in Slave mode 

unfortunately, Purepath tool does not allow this , is there any limitation with CC8531 to configure inn I2S slave ?

    Hello,

    Looking at the Datasheet the External Clock (Pin 21) should be able to be set to external clock source, but the clock here may reference the clock used by the I2S? Is there possibly a incompatibility issue that is being raised in PurPath when you do select external?

    Hi nagendra,

    I have not looked into this too closely but have you marked "Custom setup" as "Enabled" in your External Audio Device and if so then is there an issue with using the "Internal without MCLK" option?

    yes, i could setup I2S in slave (external) in RF MASTER mode , but the issue is Pairing fails with another RF slave device 

    is there any issue ?

    my requirement 

    1st CC8531-->RF-Master + I2S-slave    ))))))))))   2nd CC8531-->RF-slave + I2S-master   => Pairing Fails 

    1st CC8531-->RF-Master + I2S-master ))))))))))   2nd CC8531-->RF-slave + I2S-master   => Pairing success 

    any limitation with pairing when I2S in salve (clock source : external) mode ?

    Hello nagendra,

    Following up on Ryans comment, here is the project with custom setup disabled (similar to the image you posted earlier on the thread):

    Then I changed custom setup to enabled which resolved the external clock source error:

    Are you able to replicate this to resolve your issue?

    Hello nagendra,

    I wanted to clarify that the above reply was specifically for master, for slave even when I enable the custom setup you can't select external clock source. Unfortunately the PurePath Configurator is the only pathway to interact with the CC85xx device, so if this does not work for you we may not have another path forward.

    yes, Alex you are correct, I can change clock source as external in master mode only, which is fine for me, but the issue is if i select clock source as external in master mode, I could not pair with another CC85x , which is strange and unable to understand , i need to set I2S as slave (in RF Master) for my requirement as my DSP can work only in master , any support ?

    all, solved this issue as the pairing happens but RT went to stand by, so need to give clocks from DSP before RF starts , closing this thread
